When talking about the Audi V8, its remarkable achievements in the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) cannot go unmentioned. In 1990 and 1991, the Audi V8 DTM equipped with a 3.6L V8 engine and Audi’s legendary quattro all-wheel-drive system claimed back-to-back DTM Drivers’ Championships, cementing its status as an icon in Audi’s motorsport history.
In 1990, Hans Stuck claimed the DTM Drivers’ Championship behind the wheel of the Audi V8 quattro race car, making Audi the first manufacturer to secure consecutive DTM titles. In next year 1991, Frank Biela secured the consecutive DTM Drivers’ Championship for Audi, defending his title successfully. In short, the Audi V8 quattro race car claimed 18 victories in 36 races, posting a win rate above 50% before withdrawing from the series in 1992.
After pulling out of DTM, Audi shifted its focus to the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. From 2000 to 2005, the Audi R8 claimed five overall victories at Le Mans.
