Dear blog readers, I’m truly sorry for not updating this Audi-themed blog for such a long time. Half a year has passed in a blink. Do you still have an interest in knowledge about Audi cars and Audi car models? If yes, please keep following my blog. Starting today, I will post updates consistently and share more information about Audi vehicles and diecast Audi car models.

My last post was published on October 2nd last year, focusing on the 1:18 scale new Audi A5L Sportback diecast model. At the end of that article, I mentioned that besides the Audi A5L Sportback model, the diecast Audi A5L sedan model made by FAW-Volkswagen would be released later. Now I’m going to restart my blog updates with this 1:18 Audi A5L sedan model.

In 2023, Audi rolled out a brand-new naming rule that odd-numbered designations such as A3, A5 and A7 stand for fuel-powered vehicles, while even-numbered ones including A4, A6 and A8 are exclusively used for electric cars. Under this rule, the fuel-powered A4 was renamed A5. Therefore, the new-generation A5 with codename B10 is essentially the all-new successor to the A4L, rather than a derivative or sister model of the original A4.

This new naming system caused severe market confusion. Consumers struggled to tell apart the A5 Sportback and the Audi A5 sedan, resulting in sluggish sales. In early 2026, Audi’s CEO publicly admitted the mistake and stated: “Yes, this was a mistake, and we have made corrections.” He also revealed that the A4 badge will be restored for its next facelifted model.

Both the Audi A5L and A5L Sportback are long-wheelbase versions exclusively built for the Chinese market, manufactured by different automakers. The FAW-Audi-built Audi A5L debuted at the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 15, 2024, while the SAIC-Audi-produced Audi A5L Sportback was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 23, 2025.

In other words, the Audi A5L was launched earlier than the A5L Sportback. However, in the die-cast car model market, the 1:18 scale Audi A5L Sportback model was released first.

Unlike the Audi A5L Sportback model which is available in both 1:18 and 1:64 scales, if you are fond of the Audi A5L sedan car model and want to add it to your collection cabinet, the 1:18 scale version is currently your only option. Fortunately, you can select your favorite color among green, gray, purple and brown.

Currently, this 1:18 scale diecast Audi A5L Sedan model is priced at around 100 USD on the market. As for a 1/18 scale model, I think this price is reasonable and affordable. If you are interested, you can purchase it online from https://www.18scalediecast.com

Of course, if you want to spend less to own an Audi A5L Sedan model, you can continue to wait for the release of its smaller scale versions.
